女 RECO ✩ REGE 9 JUN 19

War Office, London, S.W. 9 June 1899.

M Bos Sir,

With reference to your letter of the 29th April 1899, 9505/99, forwarding correspondence relative to the extension of the Naval Yard at Hong Kong, and suggesting that the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty should be asked to complete the present reclamation in front of their land so as to cover the triangular area mentioned in the correspondence; I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to return the Despatch dated 5th August 1898, from the Officer Administering the Government of Hong Kong, as desired by you.

2. With reference to paragraph 3 of your letter, I am to say that it cannot be traced from the correspondence what the cost of the filling-in of the triangular portion would be; and to ask if information on this point can be supplied.

3. I am also to remark that provided the proposal for the alteration in the alignment of the water-frontage of the War Department area, as already settled in the Admiralty scheme which has been agreed to between the two Departments, does not cause any obstruction to the full use by the War Department of the reclaimed area

Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.
